These are the conditions under which DETOUR rents its golf carts in Tulum. They apply from the moment you book. When you pick up the cart you sign an agreement that says the same thing, in writing.
Who can drive
- You must be 18 or older and hold a valid driving licence. No exceptions.
- Every driver must appear in the agreement by name. Whoever is not on it is not covered if something happens.
- Drivers between 18 and 21 pay an additional fee, shown in the breakdown before you pay.
Booking and payment
- Depending on the season, you may book by paying a percentage and settle the rest when you pick up the cart. The amount for each is shown before you pay.
- The cart is not held until the payment goes through.
- The cart is not handed over with money still owed on the rental.
Security deposit
When we hand over the cart we take a deposit. It is not a payment: it is money we hold and give back when you return the cart in the condition you took it. If there is damage, we charge it against the deposit and tell you what for; if the damage costs more than the deposit, the difference is charged separately.
Handover and return
- We photograph the cart when handing it over and when receiving it back. Those photos are what settle any discussion about damage.
- We check your ID and licence against you. Bring the same ones you uploaded.
Cancellations
The refund policy depends on the season you booked in and is shown before you pay. Where a deadline applies, cancelling before it means a refund and cancelling after it does not.
Use of the cart
- The cart is for use in Tulum and its surroundings, on roads where it is allowed.
- Do not drive it under the influence of alcohol or drugs, do not carry more people than seats, and do not let anyone who is not in the agreement drive it.
- Fines and tolls incurred during the rental are yours.
